About Us
Natural product total synthesis
Medicinal chemical biology
We synthesize natural products with interesting antibacterial activity to identify their biological targets. Using synthetic chemistry, we build derivatives of these compounds to optimize their potency and then use microbiological techniques to investigate their effects on pathogenic species such as Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter baumannii, and Streptococcus mutans.
As a lab, we recognize that creating an inclusive and welcoming environment breeds innovation and creativity by capitalizing on unique perspectives. We are committed to fostering a supportive environment through increasing our personal awareness as well as promoting the advancement of all people from STEM disciplines. The Wuest Lab aspires to be a welcoming community for students and postdocs from any background.
