Elise Bezold

Elise was born and raised in southwest Ohio and received her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Northern Kentucky University in 2022. At NKU, she conducted research with Dr. Amber Onorato on the synthesis and biological analysis of potential small molecule inhibitors of mPGES-1, an enzyme in the inflammatory pathway. Elise came to Emory University to pursue her PhD in organic chemistry and joined the Wuest lab in the fall of 2022. Currently, her research focuses on the development of novel disinfectants to combat antimicrobial resistance in clinical and environmental isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. She is also working towards the total synthesis and biological investigation of an antibiofilm natural product. Her work is supported by Roche Diagnostics from the Atlanta Chapter of the ARCS Foundation. Outside of the lab, Elise enjoys cooking, playing the violin, exploring Atlanta, and spending time with her horses when she’s back in Ohio!
